Do you ever feel like you’re going through the motions of life? Maybe you live for vacations or those occasional moments when all the stars align and you feel awesome? Maybe you’re spending time in the ‘what if’ thoughts of dreams?
There comes a time when we all need to stop wishing our lives away. We need to decide that we are going to take the step that will set our feet on the path of intentional living regardless of where it leads us.
Why Dare to be a Badass?
I know there are lots of places to get inspiration. I want you to be true to yourself, but that means I have to also. If you’ll indulge me, my inspiration comes from scripture. I use it because today (and I’m old) every situation I’ve ever encountered some Badass women of the Bible have already gone through. Because of their experiences I know what to do or with some of their stories, I know what NOT to do. The stories are the best I’ve ever encountered and I can’t wait to share some of them with you like the woman who stood down 200 soldiers with food, or a prostitute who saved her family because of her studious faith, or a woman who thought nothing of leading 10,000 men to battle. My hope is that we’ll find our own Badass strengths and be the strong leaders and examples to other women that we’re commissioned to be.
Proverbs 31:10 claims a highly valuable woman as competent. Did you know in the Hebrew language, the word competent (Khayil) was the specific word reserved to describe a king or highly regarded warriors? She was a wife of a noble character but she herself was deemed exceedingly prized.
Let’s start at the end and work back to the present. Where will you be or want to be at the end of your life? 20 years from now? 10 years from now? Next year? We all need a goal, a mission, and a strategy. But before we can project manage our lives, we must first define our skills, passions and dreams.
“Talent without purpose and discipline is like an octopus on roller skates. There’s lots of movement but you never know if it’s going to be forward, backward or sideways.” ~Jackson Brown Jr.
Everything in our body grows. Your soul needs growth and exploration. Your heart needs purpose and a place to serve and connect. Each person has been given a gift, a bent or a personality trait unique to them, given to serve others. When you don’t know your gifting, you don’t know your own purpose, you don’t know which direction you’re headed in. Without that information, you don’t have a strategy, to move toward your end goal. Defining who you are, will define what you are best at, which tells you what goal to pursue and how to get there.
Life isn’t always about earning millions of dollars or becoming the next super star. More often life is about learning to be your true self, finding your purpose and passing on the lesson. Your mission in life may be to support an elderly neighbor, or teach a child to read.
When we wish for a better life, without taking action, we may look up one day and thirty years have gone by. When we make a decision that says we’re not looking back, every step moves us down the path.
“… but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” ~ Philippians 3:13-14 KJV
It takes courage to turn your life upside-down and strike out on a path that perhaps takes more faith than you’ve ever attempted before. There will be knowns, and unknowns, but the simple fact that you’re reading this says staying where you are is no longer an option for you. Your heart is already telling you there’s more out there. You’ll never be content again until you try. You’ll have to deal with fears head on, some you’ll win right away and some will take many tries to conquer or manage. You’ll have to press forward and LET GO of self-limiting ideas.
We all make rules to govern our lives. Some rules are protective, and other rules have been handed down to us. Some boundaries we should keep. Some rules have outlived their usefulness. Some rules were created out of fear. Perhaps it’s time to revisit the why of restrictions and decide if they hold us back or propel us forward. It’s time to challenge our thinking, put away restrictive thinking and dare to be all that we are designed to be.
There comes a moment in time where staying where you are, is more painful than taking the risk to move on into unfamiliar territory.
Dr. Phil says, “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.”
The world needs people with visions brave enough to turn them from dreams to reality. The next generation needs pillars they can lean on to dream their dreams. If not us, then who? Those coming up through the ranks will find a leader to follow, don’t miss the opportunity to be a quality example for her sake.
