Caffeinated or Called?

More than busy: Living on Purpose

Scripture
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10 (NIV)
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” — Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

Devotional Thought
It’s easy to confuse movement with meaning. Our days are full—appointments, responsibilities, expectations, and the quiet pressure to keep up. So we reach for caffeine, adrenaline, and productivity just to stay afloat. But busyness is not the same as purpose.

God never designed your life to be powered by urgency alone. Purpose is not found in doing more, faster. It is discovered when we slow down enough to listen. Stillness creates space for clarity. And clarity reveals calling. When we pause long enough to be present with God, we begin to recognize which parts of our lives are aligned—and which ones are simply loud.

Reflection
Where am I relying on energy to get me through, instead of alignment to guide me forward?

Today’s Gentle Practice
Choose one small pause today—before your day begins, between tasks, or before sleep. Sit quietly for a few minutes and ask God: “What are You inviting me to focus on right now?” Write down what rises to the surface without judgment.

Practical Takeaways You Can Do Today

1. Pause Before You Power Up
Before caffeine, email, or scrolling—take two minutes of stillness. Ask God one simple question: “What matters most today?” Alignment at the start of the day changes everything that follows.

2. Identify One “Busy Drain”
Notice one activity that consumes energy but produces little fruit. It might be over-explaining, over-volunteering, or over-committing. Purpose often grows when we subtract, not add.

3. Create One Sacred Margin
Block out 10–15 minutes today—no noise, no productivity goal, no fixing. Read a verse, journal a prayer, or simply sit. Purpose deepens in the margin.

4. Choose One Purpose-Aligned Yes
Do one thing today that reflects who you believe God is shaping you to become—not who everyone else expects you to be. Small, aligned steps build courageous lives.

Prayer
Lord, I confess that I often fill my days with noise instead of listening for Your voice. Help me release what drains me and lean into what You’ve called me to do. Teach me to value alignment over urgency and purpose over pressure. I trust that You are guiding me—step by step. Amen.

Encouragement
You don’t have to figure this out all at once. Purpose unfolds as you walk with God, not as you rush ahead of Him.
