CAPACITY FATIGUE
I Have the Time… So Why Can’t I Get Anything Done?
YOuTube Video & Podcast –Click here
There are days when the time is available, the list is waiting, and you genuinely want to accomplish something—but you just can’t seem to get yourself moving.
Before you label yourself lazy, undisciplined, or unmotivated, consider another possibility:
Maybe the problem isn’t your time. Maybe it’s your capacity.
Take a few minutes to honestly think about what you’re carrying and what you need.
1. WHAT’S TAKING UP MY CAPACITY?
What has been requiring the most from you lately?
☐ Family responsibilities
☐ Work or business
☐ Financial concerns
☐ Relationships
☐ Caring for someone else
☐ Making too many decisions
☐ Physical exhaustion
☐ Emotional stress
☐ Too many commitments
☐ Worry about the future
☐ A project that feels overwhelming
☐ Other: ______________________________
What is taking up the most space in my mind right now?
2. WHAT DOES CAPACITY FATIGUE LOOK LIKE FOR ME?
When I’m reaching my limit, I tend to:
☐ Procrastinate
☐ Scroll on my phone
☐ Sit or lie down and can’t get moving
☐ Avoid decisions
☐ Start things but don’t finish them
☐ Feel irritated easily
☐ Lose interest in things I normally enjoy
☐ Feel guilty because I’m not accomplishing enough
☐ Become overwhelmed by simple tasks
☐ Keep adding things to my list anyway
☐ Other: ______________________________
What are my personal warning signs that I’m running out of capacity?
3. AM I RESTING—OR JUST FEELING GUILTY?
Think about the last time you stopped because you were exhausted.
Did you actually rest?
Or did you spend the entire time thinking about everything you should have been doing?
What would real, guilt-free rest look like for me?
4. DO I NEED REST OR DO I NEED A START?
Sometimes we truly need to stop.
Other times, we’re overwhelmed by the size of the task and simply need to begin.
Ask yourself:
If I worked on this for only 10 minutes, would starting probably make me feel better?
☐ Yes
☐ No
☐ I’m not sure
One thing I’ve been avoiding is:
The smallest possible first step would be:
5. WHAT CAN I TAKE OFF MY PLATE?
Not everything that could be done needs to be done today.
Three things I’m currently expecting from myself:
Now ask:
Does each of these really need my capacity right now?
Something I can postpone: ____________________________
Something I can delegate: _____________________________
Something I can simply let go: _________________________
6. WHERE AM I WORKING AGAINST MY DESIGN?
Sometimes we’re exhausted because we’re trying to do too much.
But sometimes we’re exhausted because we’re continually trying to function in areas that don’t fit how God designed us.
What kinds of things naturally energize me?
What kinds of responsibilities consistently drain me?
Where do people naturally come to me for help?
What am I good at that I’ve been overlooking because it comes easily to me?
7. MY SPIRITUAL GIFTS
Understanding your spiritual gifts can help you recognize where you’re naturally equipped to serve, lead, encourage, teach, give, organize, help, or influence others.
Do I know what my spiritual gifts are?
☐ Yes
☐ I have an idea
☐ I’m really not sure
Where do I see those gifts showing up in my everyday life?
Am I spending most of my capacity in areas where I’m gifted—or constantly trying to become someone I’m not?
MY CAPACITY CHECK
Right now…
Something I need to REST from:
Something I need to SAY NO to:
Something I need to START:
Something I need to ASK FOR HELP with:
Something I want to make room for:
COFFEE CHAT CHALLENGE ☕
Grab a cup of coffee, tea, or whatever makes you slow down for a few minutes.
Don’t make another to-do list.
Instead, ask yourself:
“What do I actually have the capacity for in this season of my life?”
Then finish this sentence:
If I stopped judging myself by everything I’m NOT getting done, I think I’d realize…
ONE THING THIS WEEK
Don’t leave this reflection with ten more things to do.
Choose one.
This week, I’m going to:
Remember:
You can have time without having capacity.
You don’t have to do everything simply because you’re capable of doing it.
Learn when you need rest.
Learn when you need a start.
Learn what God designed you to do.
Then spend your capacity on what matters.
I Have Your Back.
